Throughout the semester my drawing has really improved. I loved having the experience of drawing a human figure holding still, from life and not a photo. I also enjoyed learning the 'artistic anatomy' of the human form. Forming each individual muscle made is easier to see the form under the skin. Have this knowledge really helped improve my figure drawing.
Since midterm my line quality has really improved. This has added more dimension to my drawings and less of a 2D feel.
Have the practice and knowledge gained in Life drawing will improve my sketching ability. Knowing the proportions of the body will help the form of the body in my graphic design work.
I have really enjoyed my time throughout the semester in Life drawing. It has helped me to slow down and really look at what I am drawing. Thank you for the experience.
I hope you enjoy my online portfolio.

Life drawing Mid-Term Progress
So far this semester in Life drawing I have been getting back into the drawing 'swing of things'. For me, drawing means looking at objects in a different way, a 3 dimensional way. I have learned to take my time, look closely, and start drawing very lightly! The light part has been very hard. Gesture drawing in class has been the most helpful for me.
In the last half of my time taking Life drawing I would like to work on my line quality. After spending so much time trying to 'go light' it will be nice to get more variation in my thickness and depth. No matter what happens in the next part of the semester I know I will have been sketching ability that will be useful in the future. I am certain that my drawing skills have improved and that they will continue to.

Trip to the Cities

this week in Life Drawing...
It was amazing to listen to our professor lecture today during class. She not only knew how to spell all the muscles of the ribs and abdominal region, but also where they were located and the angles from multiple views.
After warming up with some gesture drawings we did a 1 hour drawing focusing on the spinal column and rib cage.
I'm looking forward to our field trip next Wednesday!

She sells SEASHELLS
I am very lucky to have the opportunity to spend time amongst the seashells on Sanibel Island, FL. It is a family outing taken yearly where shelling the beach is a daily occurrence. Sanibel Island is one of the best places in the world to collect shell and has a variety that changes for day to day.
With prior knowledge of shells, I already knew mine was a part of the conch family. That made it easy to research and find out it is the Orange Spider Conch. Technically the Spider Conch is part of the genus Lambis, and the family Strombidae. Found exclusively in the Indo-Pacific region including the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean, the western and central Pacific Ocean, and the seas in Indonesia.
The Spider Conch's appearance is very unusual, the long finger like spines on its shell are only found on adults and are what give the shell it's name. There are also many layers and ridges throughout the shell where the animal lives.
Both sides on my Orange Spider Conch.

3rd session
After my 3rd lifedrawing session I feel like I have made some improvement. The last 30 minute drawing I was able to slow down and take my time.
I have really enjoyed my time so far in lifedrawing, it is a relaxing atmosphere and leaning about the spinal column was really useful. The only downside has been hauling my drawing board and supplies the 1/2 mile from my apartment to the classroom. Hopefully more progress will be made in the weeks to come!

Moving Gesture Drawing
Learning to draw slowly is very hard for me. My process consisted of covering my hand and drawing blind. As you can see from the multiple drawings it was hard to slow down and draw all the details. I tried to follow both the outlines and the inner wrinkles and lines, but after a while would pick up my tool and start over again.

Me
Hello Life Drawing class! Here is a little information about me.
I am a senior graphic design student. While at Stout I have been involved in AIGA Minnesota, Stoutonia advertisement design, and the varsity woman's soccer team. All have helped me grow as a designer and learn important skills needed for the future.
Besides art and design my greatest passions are for friends and travel. I was very lucky to get to study abroad in London for a semester in the spring of 2007. It was a life-changing experience and one I hope to repeat in the near future. Other then Europe, some resent trips I have taken are; Philadelphia, New York, Keystone, Sanibel Island, and most recently Boston.
Please introduce yourself to me during class, I would love to get to know you!
